Beautiful clear ruby with a garnet rim. Sour cherry and raspberry on the nose with notes of rosemary, local herbs and a hint of forest floor. Tart red fruits open up on the palate to lush wild strawberry and plum accented with dried herbs with bright balanced acidity and plenty of smooth tannins that provide structure. A delicate, lingering finish driven by tart cherry and red currant with just the right notes of citrus pith to stimulate your senses. Classic expression of Sangiovese.
We are thrilled to introduce our first Rosso di Montalcino in decades. This debut vintage provides an exciting opportunity to experience the early impact of the new vineyards added in 2024 to our exceptional Le Due Porte hill. Furthermore, this Rosso offers a compelling first glimpse of the quality and style to anticipate from our upcoming 2024 Brunello.
Harvest Notes
The 2024 vintage was marked by significant climatic challenges which required considerable skill and dedication.
The first significant issue was a period of over 20 days of consistent rain between mid-May and mid-June. While this contributed to a vigorous vineyard growth, it also presented a significant risk of downy mildew and powdery mildew. This was followed by a prolonged drought starting at the end of June and lasting over a month, with very high average temperatures, sometimes reaching 38°C. Soil management was critical during this period to maximize water supplier.
Fundamental rains in August helped the grapes reach near-full maturity by early September. However, a subsequent period of constant rain and cooler temperatures, halted ripening, delaying the harvest until early October.
