Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is vinified with 100% Sangiovese grapes, with no blending of other varietals allowed, to protect the purity of the expression of this unique varietal and terroir. Typically deep garnet in color with aromas of red fruit, chocolate, violet and herbs with tobacco and earth increasing with age, our Il Palazzone Brunellos are full-bodied yet translucent, with ABV around 13.5-14.5%. The strong smooth tannins and ripe fruit balance brightness and acidity to deliver a perfect wine for food pairing, and the structure and depth provide the ability to enjoy whether drinking young or after some aging.

FIRST VINTAGE

1990

TOTAL PRODUCTION

8,000-20,000 750 ml bottles, depending on vintage

GRAPES

100% Sangiovese

HARVEST

In recent years, harvest starts around the third week of September, although the actual date depends on the maturity of the grapes. In general, we pick low elevations first and move up through the higher elevations. The grapes are picked by hand using small crates and transported to the cantina for hand sorting and vinification.

YIELD PER HECTARE

The maximum yield allowed for the production of Brunello is 8.000 kg per hectare.  Due to our rigorous selection process, we rarely reach that threshold, usually realizing a yield in the range of 2.500 - 4.000 kg.

AGING

Il Palazzone Brunello usually spends twenty-five to thirty-five months in large scale Slavonian oak barrels, then returns briefly to cement before bottling.

VINEYARDS

Our primary vineyards cover the Le Due Porte hill from bottom to top, ranging in altitude from 400-600 meters, with expositions ranging SW to NW.  The estate also has separate parcels in quite different areas of Montalcino to maximize the microclimates that define Montalcino.

GROWTH SYSTEM

Balanced single spur cordon and guyot.

VINIFICATION

Long maceration and natural fermentation to fully dry with cap maintenance as needed per tank. Maximum temperature 25 – 28° C. Each parcel is vinified separately through alcoholic and often malolactic fermentations.  Fermentation primarily in large cement tulips, with some excess in very large Slavonian oak.

Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Le Le Due Porte DOCG

Vigna Le Due Porte is produced with grapes harvested exclusively from our cru vineyard, 1.4 special hectares surrounding the cellar at 540 metres above sea level. The synergy of the pietraforte soil, 25-year-old vines, tramontana winds and western sun come together to deliver grapes of exceptional character and quality.  Vinified to exemplify the traditional structure of a Brunello vecchio stampo, this noble wine is the true expression of finesse and elegance, crafted to drink deliciously right away as well as to evolve perfectly over the next decade and beyond thanks to its strong, smooth tannins and well-balanced acidity.

Rosso, Grappa & EVOO

In addition to our DOCG wines, we also produce Rosso di Palazzone, Grappa and EVOO. Our Rosso di Palazzone, blended with mixed vintages of declassified Brunello, showcases fruit, freshness and approachability similar to a Rosso di Montalcino. Our grappa is created by Master Distiller Priscilla Occhipinti at Distilleria Nannoni. Our EVOO is pressed from our own trees, harvested by hand after the end of the grape harvest.
