The Il Palazzone 2021 Le Due Porte is an elegant expression of high-altitude Brunello. On the nose, the wine brings ripe cherry, tart blackberry and dried strawberry notes. More so than the fruit, the wine is defined by its herbal and floral qualities with wild rosemary, sage, crunchy forest leaves and fresh mountain flowers. Despite its youth, this wine is already delicious with a complex smooth tannic structure that gives the wine impact, while the high altitude vineyard keeps the fruit character light and juicy. Its translucent elegance pairs beautifully with fish or al fresco meals, while its classic Brunello body makes it perfect for when you are looking for something with a little more presence to pair with grilled meat or any classic Tuscan pasta.

January was quite cold with some snow. February saw fluctuating temperatures and additional snow early in the month. Abundant winter rains were crucial for water storage, which proved vital in mitigating the subsequent dry season.

Spring remained colder than the historical average until June. Bud break was favored by a significant temperature rise at the end of March. However, a late frost on April 8th caused a prolonged period below freezing, resulting in a decrease in production and a slowdown of the entire cycle.

Summer was moderately hot and defined by significant drought, with very little rainfall, particularly in March, July, and September. All tools and knowledge were implemented to avoid sunburn on the bunches or damage to the canopy. Marked day-night temperature swings positively influenced the quality and aromatic profile of the vintage. These temperature swings also ensured that the color of the canopies remained green and intact. The rainfall that arrived at the end of August was highly beneficial, assisting in the balanced ripening of the grapes. Le Due Porte harvest took place on September 30th.
